Daft Punk - Get Lucky (ft. Pharrell & Nile Rogers). The robots. Oh how well they tease.
Inc. - Black Wings. Emo rock meets 90s RnB. Aaron Lewis’ sensibilities meets D’Angelos wail. It’s very interesting. And very melancholic. In my current exploration of this group’s music, I am yet to find a song I don’t like. They’re on alert this year year for me.
When the moon is a cold chiseled dagger
And it’s sharp enough to draw blood from a stone
He rides through your dreams on a coach and horses
And the fence posts in the moonlight look like bones
Diana Nduba - Destination. It’s been a while since I blogged about this very talented lady. She takes her time releasing new singles, each one always as good or better than the last.
In this track, she takes us on a journey, her falsetto casually drifting and driving us over a sultry Ricky Suede beat (I find it unfortunate that i don’t know anything about this mysterious producer).
That middle interlude where the beat drops out and her layered voice takes center stage over the airy chord progression is absolutely stunning, only matched by the surprising (but very welcome) introduction of the all-familiar skittery drum & bass for the final third of the song. Took me back in time.
This song is a trip into the past, a reflection of the present and an aural glimpse into the future for Diana Nduba as one of Kenya’s finest.
We can’t wait to hear more!
